RMC Collecting Community Questions on Saugus Ash Landfill Closure Process
In June 2026, the Saugus Board of Health opened a 60-day question period related to the planned closure of the Saugus ash monofill, which is expected in fall 2027.
Rumney Marsh Conservancy is collecting community questions and perspectives to help identify issues that should be clearly addressed during this process. The RMC form is intended for residents, neighbors, advocates, technical experts, and anyone else with questions, concerns, local observations, or relevant background to share.
The closure of the ash monofill raises important questions about long-term maintenance, groundwater and contamination monitoring, stormwater and flooding, public health, Bear Creek Wildlife Sanctuary, Rumney Marsh, ash handling after closure, public reporting, and accountability.
Community members do not need to be experts to participate. The form is also intended for people who may have questions but are not sure how to pose them during the 60-day process. RMC may review, group, summarize, or paraphrase submitted questions as part of its own formal response.
Submitting a question through RMC does not submit it directly to the Saugus Board of Health. Anyone who wants to submit questions directly to the Board of Health should use the official BOH submission form linked on RMC’s page.
