About Rumney Marsh Conservancy
Rumney Marsh Conservancy is a local, volunteer-led organization dedicated to protecting, restoring, and deepening public understanding of Rumney Marsh and its surrounding ecosystems.
Our work focuses on the long-term health of the Rumney Marsh Area of Critical Environmental Concern (ACEC), one of the largest and most ecologically important salt marsh systems in Massachusetts. This landscape plays a critical role in coastal resilience, flood mitigation, wildlife habitat, and the environmental history of its surroundings.
Our Mission
The purpose of Rumney Marsh Conservancy, Inc., is to advance the protection, restoration, and appreciation of the Rumney Marsh Area of Critical Environmental Concern (ACEC) and its surrounding ecosystems.
We promote public education, scientific understanding, and community stewardship of the marsh through research, outreach, advocacy, and on-the-ground restoration and conservation projects.
What we do
Our work includes:
Supporting the conservation and ecological restoration of tidal wetlands, salt marshes, and associated upland habitats
Advancing public understanding of the ecological, historical, and cultural importance of the Rumney Marsh ACEC
Documenting conditions on the marsh to support education, awareness, and informed decision-making
Partnering with local residents, scientists, educators, agencies, and community organizations to support long-term stewardship and resilience
Conducting and supporting educational programs, scientific studies, and public engagement activities
Working collaboratively to reduce sources of pollution and other environmental stressors that threaten the health and biodiversity of the marsh
